Questioning Enthusiast

The speed of learning of children in this age group is incredible. Why? What’s this? Can I help? Their questions are endless. They love getting their hands dirty, they enjoy understanding what’s happening around them, and how things function.

How does ChikuPiku help?

This Kid’s Magazine is full of stories about scientists and their discoveries, art and craft activities, our environment, stories about animals, birds and trees, inspiring personalities and their work. 4- to 6-year-olds enjoy such stories. They start understanding what’s right and wrong, learn new words, and learn to express their thoughts clearly.

How to use the Magazines and Audio Stories for children

  • After listening to the story once or twice, the children will be able to narrate the story while reading pictures.
  • The magazine always has easy rhythmic Marathi badbad geete that children can enjoy, learn and perform.
  • Listening to audio stories can spark children’s curiosity. Things they learn from the stories can also help with School work.
  • Children learn to imagine and start making up their own stories.
  • Children enjoy colouring activities, puzzles, and spending quality time with their parents.
  • They start independently using glue and scissors for their activities.
  • Marathi audio stories can easily replace screen time.

Ideal screen time for 4- to 6-year-olds

Children in this age group should not be exposed to more than 1 hour of screen time per day. During this hour, TV screens are more preferred than Mobile screens. To ensure children watch age-appropriate content, parents or other responsible adults should accompany them. A TV time schedule should be fixed. Children should not watch TV soaps with their grandparents as unwanted feelings of hatred, anger can get passed on to children.

  Feasible alternatives to Screen Time

  • All members of the family should get involved in keeping the child engaged. It can’t be the responsibility of one person. The child can go to the market with the grandmother, can solve puzzles with the father, read stories with the mother, etc.

  • Including children in daily chores. Asking them to help with putting the vessels back, cleaning up their cupboard, etc
  • Children’s story books and audio stories can be used.

  • Weekends can be planned to include short excursions and nature walks.
  • Planned play dates can teach children social skills.

  Nutrition tips for kids

This is the age when the weight, height and strength of children increases. Intake of proteins and vitamins is important.

Tips :

  • Coconuts are rich sources of good fats that are essential for brain growth. If possible, children should eat foods that have fresh coconuts as an ingredient every day.
  • Foods with high-quality proteins are essential to boost signaling channels in the brain. Mixed dals, sprouts, eggs, milk, cheese, paneer should be included in their diet.
  • Due to continuous use of sugar, the brain tends to slow down. Sugar intake increases acidity and can also reduce the flow of oxygen to the brain. Thus, it can make children feel lethargic and sleepy.

Recommended sleep routine for 4 to 6 year olds

Children in this age group need 12 hours of sleep. Enzymes necessary for the growth of children are produced during sleep. Children may take one nap during the day and sleep continuously at night.

Healthy sleep habits

  • Children should sleep early at night. Children shouldn’t be awake after 10 pm.
  • Children should have a fixed sleeping place.
  • Decide a suitable time to sleep and stick to it.
  • Children can be lulled to sleep by closing the curtains, dimming the lights, and telling bedtime stories and soothing lullabies.
  • Children should not be shown on screen at all while sleeping.
